Stem Cell Therapy Process

Autologous Adipose Enriched Stem Cells help reverse and repair some of the world's most common medical diseases. Dr. Guyer uses this process on patients suffering from medical conditions such as osteoarthritis, pulmonary disease, and autoimmune disorders. We can also use stem cell therapy in several cosmetic procedures. Below, we describe the procedure in detail:

Step 1 - Harvest

The treatment begins with a local anesthetic that we infuse into the abdominal area. Then Dr. Guyer, trained in liposuction techniques, performs a mini liposuction procedure. The amount of fat needed depends on the type of procedure we perform, but in most cases we only require 200cc of fat. Typically, we harvest fat from both sides of the abdomen to ensure proper distribution. The fat harvesting process takes roughly 30 minutes.

Step 2 - Separation

Next, certified technicians process the harvested fat. Then, they spin the harvested fat using a patented centrifuge. After the spinning process, the fat concentrates at the top of the test tube and millions of stem cells isolate on the bottom. Then technician carefully extracts only the stem cells from the test tube using a closed system transfer. This eliminates any outside environmental contamination. Finally, we can enrich and transfuse the stem cells. The separation process takes roughly 50 minutes.

Step 3 - Enrich

Next, a phlebotomist takes 10cc of blood from the patient to begin the process. Then they spin the blood in a centrifuge which separates blood components and isolates platelets containing growth factors. We refer to this as Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). Then the phlebotomist adds the platelets to the stem cells. This process takes about 15 minutes.

Step 4 - Treat

Finally, we administer the enriched stem cells. And depending on which condition is being treated, we introduce the stem cells into the body one of two ways: via intravenous drip or injection. This process takes roughly 1-3 hours to complete.

What are stem cells?

Stem cells, unspecialized cells that maintain and repair tissues, develop into many different types of cells. In regeneration, stem cells may seek out areas in need of repair or restoration. Modern science accelerates our body's natural healing process.

Where do stem cells come from?

We use two types of stem cells for treatments: embryonic and adult stem cells.  First, we use embryonic stem cells (derived from embryos) and adult stem cells (derived from a patient’s own body). Whereas adult stem cells exist throughout the body, the abdomen contains the most abundant and accessible source of stem cells.

What is Stem Cell Therapy?

So stem cell therapy involves isolating adult stem cells from abdominal fat. During this process, we reintroduce stem cells back into the body where they can do the most good. First, the process begins when we extract a few ounces of fat from the patient in a “mini” liposuction procedure. Next, we isolate the stem cells utilizing the state-of-the-art Healeon Medical CENTRIcyte 1000 Centrifuge. Finally, we re-introduce the stem cells back into the body by IV and/or injection (for more localized treatments).

What kind of ailments can stem cell therapy help?

For example, local treatments help heal knee, shoulder and other joint pain. Additionally, when we apply stem cells to the face, neck and scalp using a micro-needle system, we can achieve a more healthy, youthful look. What happens after the liposuction?

How does the stem cell isolation process work?

While using the CENTRIcyte 1000 Centrifuge, the medical staff performs four separate steps to isolate your stem cells. In addition, we make sure the process stays completely closed and sterile for your safety.

Is the Healeon Medical CENTRIcyte 1000 FDA approved?

The Healeon Medical CENTRIcyte 1000 offers one of few devices to be FDA registered. As such, it utilizes a FDA-compliant process for autologous cell isolation at the point of care.

What happens after you are done isolating the stem cells?

After we isolate your stem cells, your physician reintroduces them into your body with an intravenous mix of saline and stem cells. And if you have elected local application, your physician injects stem cells directly into the areas of concern. Also, we may apply stem cells to the face, neck and scalp for cosmetic purposes at this time.

How long does the entire procedure take?

The entire procedure lasts only a few hours. In fact, most patient procedures take around 3 to 4 hours.

Can I go home afterwards?

Stem cell therapy is considered an outpatient procedure. Thus, our patients can go home immediately following the procedure.

Can I drive myself home?

No. You will need someone to drive you home.

How long is the recovery?

Many patients go back to work on the following day. However, you may be sore for about a week following the procedure. We ask you to refrain from exercise for at least a week.

How long until I will see improvement?

Since individual ailments vary, the outcome of stem cell therapy depends on your body’s unique healing process. However, some patients may experience results immediately or within just days of receiving stem cell therapy. Other patients take months to reach optimal healing. No one can guarantee the outcome for this or any treatment, and results vary. Your physician determines a treatment plan tailored specifically for your condition that gives you the best chance for success. Is the stem cell isolation procedure FDA approved?

Currently the FDA considers all procedures utilizing stem cells to treat specific ailments as experimental. However, more than 3500 clinical studies conduct stem cell research for specific applications. All of them demonstrate significant promise in treating ailments that have otherwise been unresponsive to conventional treatments. We carry out all procedures using FDA-cleared and registered equipment, which all fall within the FDA regulations for transferring tissue.

Do you modify my stem cells?

No. We simply isolate your stem cells from your fat and reintroduce them to your body. We do not manipulate your stem cells or modify them in any way.

Can you guarantee results?

No, we cannot guarantee treatment, and results vary from patient to patient. However, approximately 90% of our patients experience positive results.

Can I save my stem cells for later use?

We can store stem cells legally in the US. However, the issue becomes retrieval of the stem cells for therapeutic use after we store them. However, the FDA considers the process of adding cryo-preservatives into the sample as manipulating the tissue. Hence, we choose to store the fat with no preservatives, which ensures we comply with FDA regulations.
