New Naturopathic Doctor Strengthens Staff

We are excited to announce the arrival of a talented new staff member, naturopathic doctor Lori Rivera.

Lori joined The Guyer Institute and Synergy Spa in late June. She joins us from Versailles, Kentucky. While there, she was part of an office focusing on integrative medicine.

Lori Rivera

“I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to be joining this wonderful group under Dr. Guyer,” Lori says. “The place – the whole team – has a stellar reputation. I know I can continue to bolster that confidence patients show in us.”

Lori has already been working alongside Dale Guyer, MD, founder of the institute. She joins naturopathic doctor, Amgad Ghattas, on our team.

Naturopathic medicine is born of traditional healing methods.

It focuses on holistic, proactive prevention and comprehensive diagnosis and treatment.

Naturopathic physicians help facilitate the body’s inherent ability to restore and maintain optimal health. Rivera and Ghattas help identify and remove barriers to good health. They work to create a healing internal and external environment.

“It is a remarkably valuable approach to achieving better health,” Lori says. “I am expertly trained, and I learn something new every day. That’s my responsibility, my obligation.

I will make a point of staying ahead of the curve on the latest knowledge, practices and procedures to offer patients at The Guyer Institute.”

Naturopathic doctors can alleviate, allergies, chronic pain, and help with digestive issues. They can also focus on hormonal imbalances, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome.

Lori is also a certified phlebotomist, making her even more valuable to us.

She’ll be assisting the IV Therapy staff on our range of therapies to boost energy, strengthen immune systems and relieve pain.

She will also be training on doing MG Pro procedures, which uses electromagnetic energy waves that help change the way your body copes with pain. They can provide instant relief – by allowing the cells to repair and regenerate.

Lori will also work with the EECP procedure. It is an outpatient treatment to help improve cardiovascular flow and reduce and relieve angina.

The Guyer Institute and Synergy Spa is proud and fortunate to have Lori Rivera on our team as its second naturopathic doctor. She makes what we offer our patients here even better.

Lori is part of our continuing investment…in you and your well-being.

We Can Help Improve Your Sleep and Boost Health, Energy, Relationships, and Beauty

Perhaps nothing is more important to your overall health than getting enough sleep.

Hands down: having your head on a pillow, eyes closed, . Enough sleep is essential.

“Sleep deficiency is so underreported and undiagnosed,” says Dale Guyer, MD, founder and medical director of The Guyer Institute and Synergy Spa.

“Through my years in integrative health, I’ve often communicated with patients to see if they have a sleep issue. If they do, we act.”

One step: a home sleep study – to see if you’re getting enough sleep. Yes, you can now test your sleep patterns in the convenience of your own house or apartment.

Snap Diagnostics has a product with which we and our patients have had great success.

The Guyer Institute and Synergy Spa can recommend and order the appropriate home assessment, and make sure it gets mailed to you

And: we counsel you after you get the results – about next steps.

Dr. Guyer says that getting enough sleep begins with a great routine. Steadily lower your light and distraction levels as your evening progresses. Turn off electronic devices about an hour before bedtime.

Getting enough sleep depends, also, on coffee intake. For most of you, it is not a good idea to drink coffee late in the day or in the evening.

Z’s are more important than cups.

How much sleep a person really needs is also variable. But you know it when you don’t get it.

Dr. Guyer definitely recommends: do the same thing night after night – to prepare your mind and body to slow down.

The Guyer Institute and Synergy Spa also often advises one or more of the following supplements to aid patients in getting enough sleep. They are time-tested, safe, and affordable.

All are available in capsule form in our Supplement Store.

An essential amino acid, tryptophan is a precursor for the neurotransmitter serotonin – and the hormone melatonin.

Research shows it may help with reducing anxiety, stress and depression. Dr. Guyer typically recommends taking 500-2000 mg nightly to aid with sleep.

A hormone produced in the pineal gland that regulates daily rhythms. As daylight fades to darkness, the pineal gland is “switched on,” promoting feelings of sleepiness.

Melatonin helps streamline that chemical process.

Added benefits include: increased immune function and decreased Inflammation. Dr. Guyer typically recommends taking 1-3 mg nightly.

Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid is an amino acid which acts as an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system.

Its principal role is reducing neuronal excitability. It may also help with mood and cognitive function. Dr. Guyer typically recommends 500-2000 mg nightly.

Do you know you need more and better sleep? The Guyer Institute and Synergy Spa is here to get you there.

Enough sleep is a path to improved health, richer beauty, stronger performance at work, and better relationships.

You Can Feel Better, Look Better, Boost Wellness With Coconut Oil: The World’s Healthiest Oil

In the wellness world, coconut oil has been called “the healthiest oil on earth.”

Surprised? Going back several thousand years to the legendary Ayurveda healing modality in India, coconut oil has been used and admired for its wellness and medicinal qualities.

Ayurveda translates as “the wisdom of life.” At The Guyer Institute and Synergy Spa, Dr. Dale Guyer has the wisdom to recommend coconut oil to many of his patients.

From brain health to beauty, joint wellness to digestive and dental health, interest in the advantages of coconut oil has skyrocketed.

Coconut oil is making a remarkable difference for millions these days.

Patients and customers of The Guyer Institute and Synergy Spa rave about:

  • how lustrous their hair looks
  • improvements in their teeth and overall oral health
  • the softness and less pronounced wrinkling on their faces, necks, and hands

Wellness and this “miracle” oil seem to go hand in hand, and we don’t want you to be left behind.

“Coconut oil is simply remarkable,” Dr. Guyer said. “I have seen it help patients make great strides. It assists with a range of digestive problems, and those maladies are, unfortunately, very common.”

Dr. Guyer adds: “Coconut oil has also demonstrated some immune system benefit, as well – along with hormonal support. Again, it’s a rather amazing oil to help your body be at its best.”

Immune Support: Coconut oil’s acids have anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and antiviral properties to help immune systems.

Hormonal Support: An imbalance in hormones can cause major issues. Coconut oil contains specific fats that support the body’s natural hormone production.

Studies have also suggested that the oil may improve wellness by increasing metabolism. In turn, it aids in weight loss.

It can also help increase energy and lower stress.

It is true that coconut oil is a saturated fat, but is a monounsaturated fat, like olive oil. Several of the other acids in these fats are beneficial.

It has also shown it may be able to raise levels of “good cholesterol” in the body.

You should discuss a sharp increase in coconut oil ingestion or application with a medical professional.

At The Guyer Institute and Synergy Spa, we offer informative, measured consultations. This, before we recommend anyone start a significant new supplement program.

The oil is a wonderful moisturizer. It improves complexion, suppleness, and elasticity.

It can also have a positive impact an array of skin problems like psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema, dry skin, and scarring.

Coconut oil’s antioxidant properties make it great for stopping wrinkles and skin irritation.

So, get your coconut oil on! Its impact on your wellness will be unmistakable.
